Civil War Sailor Uniform Requirements
The Navy's official uniform has not been changed or defined as much as it had during the Civil War. When in 1862 the Dept. of the Navy came up with regulations that subsequently changed every year after that till the end of the Civil War. This made for much confusion and allowed both the enlisted and officer corps to be dressed differently throughout the War. In viewing period pictures you can tell differences in style, from the point of view of Ship's Company we portray the 1864 regulations of the U.S. Navy.
