Musicians

Michael Bosworth -- vocals
A plankowner in the Chantymen, Mike is a retired deck and engineering officer of the U.S. Navy, and a naval architect. He has been doing Maritime Living History with Ship's Company since 1991 when his then 6-year-old son wished to become a powder monkey. Mike is also the circa 1800 and boat coordinator for Ship's Company, has crewed on tallships, sings in his church choir, and is working on his Merchant Marine master's license and doctorate.

Don Kenefick -- vocals, ukelele, bones
Don grew up in the Washington area, and has been lucky enough to have been able to occasionally parlay his interests in theater, historical sailing, and singing into a living. Sometimes they converge in interesting ways: Don has crewed on tallships that were being filmed for movies, played sea captains or sailors on stage, and sung chanteys while working aboard ships. There are still quite a few ships on his life list that he hopes to sail on before he quits the sea, but Don says he'll never quit singing.

Steven Lampredi -- vocals, melodeon
All around eccentric and volunteer sailor on Delaware's tallship the Kalmar Nyckel, Steven plays button accordion and concertina, and sometimes spoons, but not all at the same time. Maybe someday though. Steven dedicates this performance to Bob Marlin and the Whalers.

Joe McGowan -- vocals, guitar
A baritone singer, Joe has been performing for more than 30 years with interests and performance credits ranging from chanteys to opera, from sailor "dives" to Carnegie Hall. (just ask him how to get there). He's an active-duty Navy Captain currently serving as a Professor at the US Naval Academy, and is a navy-certified skipper of ocean-going sailing vessels with six completed offshore passages. He proudly wears the gold dolphins of a US Navy submariner.

Darcy Nair -- vocals, bouzouki, bodhran, bones, hammered dulcimer
Darcy is the new kid on the block, having joined in 2000, but she has been performing maritime music since 1990 with Maryland-based group The Pyrates Royale. She also plays hammered dulcimer as a soloist and collaborates with folk musicians in the DC area. In addition to her chantey-singing duties, she served as webmaster of the Ship's Company site. Darcy is proud to log sea time as a top man aboard the Kalmar Nyckel.

Myron Peterson -- vocals, jaw harp, Business Manager
One of the original members of the Chantymen, Myron is a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer. He has been doing Naval Living History interpretation since 1984 with Ship's Company.

Jim Rockwell -- vocals, bones, concertina, bodhran
"Tiger" got his start singing around the camp fire in the Boy Scouts and in Dorsey's Independent Artillery Company. Once started, he remained true to his name. Despite warnings and threats on his life, he kept singing until at last he refined his skill to a finely-honed weapon which he uses to smite his detractors. A firm believer in Stan Hugill's adage "clarity and volume are much more important than tonal beauty," Tiger is a founding member of the Chantymen and a sometime guest musician with The Pyrates Royale. His latest musical endeavor, Nyckel's Worth, is a group of sailors and officers of the Kalmar Nyckel. The Chantymen's monthly public chanty sings at the Royal Mile were Jim's idea, and have spawned other sings in Alexandria, VA; Richmond, VA; Annapolis, MD and Wilmington, DE. He is thankful for the hearty and interesting people in his life that the pursuit of "things maritime" -- including tallship sailing and music -- has brought to him. He says they are "a bunch of characters with character."

Don Stallone -- vocals, concertina, melodeon, bones
A longtime singer of chanteys and maritime music, Don is well-known in the DC area for his work with such popular groups as Clam Chowder, Connemara and Ironweed. He started singing chanteys and sea music (and just about anything else in about 7 languages that allowed harmony) in 1978 as a founding member and chanteyman for Clam Chowder where he had solos on three vinyl albums: Special Order, Stewed, and For Here or to Go. He then went on to form Ironweed which released a tape, Dancing Cowboy, and a CD, King's Favourite. He has been nominated for two WAMA awards and has guest appearances on four other CDs. He also served as chanteyman aboard the tall ship Spirit of Massachusetts.
